Keith Urban Taking All Questions Tonight? I’m In.

When you go through an artist’s publicist to set up an interview, there are usually a few of their rules you have to play by. So there’s no asking about so-and-so, don’t bring up the you-know-what and for God’s sake do not get into a conversation about THAT. So this chat thing Keith Urban is doing tonight (June 7) at 5 p.m. CT with fans seems like a golden opportunity to get all the answers you want. It even says, “no question will be off limits.” That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll answer all of them, but still. The guy’s got class, so if I was on the chat I’d definitely keep it classy. But maybe, just maybe, a few fans will stray into otherwise forbidden territory and Urban will give up some honest answers. You can submit questions in advance on Urban’s site or Facebook or Twitter pages. And the chat will stream live if you just want to listen in anonymously.

Keith Urban Delivers Torch Songs at Ellis Island

I’m not sure how many Australians came through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954. But last week, one very important Aussie showed up there when Keith Urban was the surprise performer at some fancy private event. At least I’m assuming it was fancy, because really, wouldn’t it need to be a high-end party if you have the Statue of Liberty in the background AND you’re hiring Keith Urban? He seems impressed as hell with the venue, looking out at the enthusiastic crowd saying, “I can’t believe we’re playing on Ellis Island!” Some eight million immigrants were processed there, including my husband’s own clan of Italian ancestors starting in about 1907. So even for Urban, who was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, I’d imagine that the symbolism of Ellis Island was huge. And for the Statue of Liberty in the background, whose torch looks just like a lighter, she seems like she’s the ultimate Urban fan looking for an encore.
